I think I”m buying this up to a point. Yes AI supercharges execution velocity in some cases ( some would say it supercharges “workslop” ..
But IMO that doesn’t mean you can ignore execution in favor of ideation….ie, it takes a very carefully crafted balance between these too.. and OKR style process improvement can probably help with both me thinks..
“the AI era puts emphasis on ideas because AI bots and agents will be doing much of the granular workflow execution.”
First off remember that AI technology may have arrived but we are a long way from running our businesses on it. Especially for legacy business new AI technology needs to be integrated with existing systems and people. So there is still plenty of execution to do for a few years yet.
Now as to ideas…
When crafting OKRs I ask people to transport themselves to the future where the OKRs have been achieved. What does the world look like? How is it different? How would you quantitfy it?
I’m asking people for ideas.
If ideas is what you want the process of creating OKR should give you some.
Perhaps more importantly, OKRs are means of evaluating the ideas you have. In setting the key results you are saying “what does success look like?” and “how do I measure it?”
Once you have them you can filter ideas in two way:
do we have reason to believe these criteria will deliver benefits? If not then maybe the idea isn’t worth pursuing.
which of the ideas we have look the most promising now we understand how they change the world?
